Geotechnical Engineer - Geotechnical & Material Testing, Inc.

A proposed townhouse development was underlain by soft virgin clay and also contained an old sedimentation pond that had been previously filled in. The principal concern of the geotechnical engineer was consolidation of the soft clays under the placement of up to five feet of new fill plus the weight of the townhouse units.

TerraSystems installed wick drains in five of the townhouse blocks to depths of approximately 40 feet. The area was then surcharges with approximately 10 feet of fill. The surcharge was left in place for approximately two months.
